Windows Genuine Advantage(WGA) is an anti-piracy program. It checks the Operating System to determine whether the copy of the window that you are using currently is legitimate. It does so every time you boot. If the Window Automatic Updates are enabled it gets installed automatically. When you install this legalization tool, an ActiveX module is installed in the Internet Explorer.

The tool shows notifications if it fails to validate your Windows,. It will be in the form of a balloon saying that you may be a victim of software counterfeiting and your copy of window is not genuine.

You may want to remove this as once the WGA tool has verified your PC as legitimate you may not want to do it for every boot. The method to remove it has been provided by. Microsoft in it’s knowledge base (kb 921914). As the method is difficult, basic users of Windows XP may use the Remove WGA tool which does this automatically.

On using Remove WGA tool only the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications is removed and the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation remains untouched.

There are a few other ways of disabling WGA notification. You may choose to easily disable WGA notification through your firewall. For this you will have to disable the automatic startup of wgatray.exe and wgalogon.dll through your firewall. You may also choose third party software for the purpose. There are many software which are capable of disabling WGA notifications. The notable amongst these are WGA Remover and MUBlinder.
If you have installed WGA by mistake, you may choose to use your system restore to do away with of it. You can restore your system to the point where WGA was not installed. Once you are finished doing this you will simply have to Restart your system

Reactivate Your Windows XP When You Lost Windows License Key

In case you have lost the Microsoft Windows CD, you can get back the lost number by utilizing freeware license finder that goes through your system registry files in order to retrieve your original key.

If you have misplaced the Windows serial key or finding it hard to eliminate any hardware error after Windows XP e-installs, then create an alternative of file ‘wpa.dbl’ in Windows 32 folder. ‘wpa.dbl’ is a database file for your system, where you can store XP activation key together with information on hardware arrangement. Whatever changes you make on the system, it will be shown in this file.

Hence, if you wish to retain the old system configuration, you will have to use the support of ‘wpa-dbl’ file and retrieve it after re-installing Windows XP to re-start your system.

This ‘wpa-dbl’ exists in the "c:\Windows\System 32 "

Be careful while following this steps..

IMPORTANT:

First and foremost, you need to shift to the system 32 folder –

C:\Windows\system 32 folder; when Windows XP is already stored in the C drive.

Then look for file ‘wpa.dbl’ and create a support through normal ways like CD burning/ storing it in your floppy disk.

Now you can safely shift it to safe mode [F8] while re-installing the Windows XP.

Copy the previous ‘wpa.dbl’ file and re-store it to the system 32 folder! Now your job is done and Windows re-started is ready for use.

Now make the backup of this "

wpa.db

" so that you can use whenever you want...

FORMAT /AUTOTEST checks for the existing format of your disk, unless the /U (UNCONDITIONAL) parameter is also used, and then proceeds with an UNATTENDED DISK(ETTE) FORMAT:

DOES NOT prompt for a volume label!
DOES NOT prompt to format another disk(ette)!
NO delay: NO user intervention!
Ends WITHOUT pausing!
After completion, it DOES display disk space statistics.

2)FORMAT drive: /U :
FORMAT drive: /U performs an UNCONDITIONAL format, which DESTROYS every byte of data on ANY hard disk/floppy by overwriting it with zeroes (hex F6h).

3) FORMAT drive: /SELECT /U :
FORMAT drive: /SELECT /U makes a disk(ette) UNREADABLE by filling the system area (sector 0) with zeroes (hex F6h), due to using these two incompatible options together. All other sectors are left intact.

Secure your Desktop Icons and Settings

You can save your desktop settings and secure it from your nerdy friend by playing with the registry. Simply launch the Registry Editor go to:

In the right pane create a new DWORD Value named NoSaveSettings and modify it's value to 1. Refresh and restart for the settings to get saved.

Disabling Display of Drives in My Computer

This is yet another trick you can play on your geek friend. To disable the display of local or networked drives when you click My Computer go to :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Now in the right pane create a new DWORD item and name it NoDrives. Now modify it's value and set it to 3FFFFFF (Hexadecimal) Now press F5 to refresh. When you click on My Computer, no drives will be shown. To enable display of drives in My Computer, simply delete this DWORD item. It's .reg file is as follows:

DO:

1. Do scan computer thoroughly to get rid of viruses. Computer freezing up is connected with them archly. Therefore, it is a must to spend some time checking computer by using anti-virus programs.

2. Do clean computer at intervals and defragment disk. Such two methods work very well for high computer performance and keep computer from freezing up. If hard disk is crammed with a pile of junk, computer cannot provide enough disk space to run programs smoothly and is vulnerable to freeze up.

3. Do clean registry as much as possible. Registry serves as storage of all computer data. Useless junk does not only hide in the hard disk but also registry. To prevent freeze-up computer, cleaning registry is the choice for high computer performance you cannot afford to miss out.

DO NOT:

1. Do not use piratical software because there must be a mass of viruses. They should be blamed for main hindrance to increase computer performance. Once you use them, it can recompose your system automatically and maliciously and lead to freezing up when system is working.
